Upper Ferntree Gully launches its own website

The Upper Ferntree Gully Community website was offiicially launched and presented to the community at an afternoon tea. The response from that moment on has been wonderful and we have been welcomed to the auCD community by other site administrators. Not only do we have our own community, but we are now part of a larger, online community. Upper Ferntree Gully became their featured site from launch day.
The site was first presented to the Upper Ferntree Gully Community by the Diploma of Community Development students in 2007. A community meeting was held to gauge interest.
Part of the evening was a presentation by auCD - Australian Community Domains. They showed us how the site worked and the simplicity of its control panel - or 'back end' as they referred to it and although the attendance was a little disappointing, the interest was defiinitely there.
Coonara Community house applied to be the administrators of the domain name on behalf of the Upper Ferntree Gully community and it was registered in June 2008. Funding was sought through Knox City Council and Bendigo bank and access to the 'Site in a Box' website was arranged.
Letters asking for expressions of interest were sent out to community groups and a few responses were received. A couple of businesses also came on board and our first training night began on August 4, 2008.

Small beginnings perhaps, but beginnings all the same. This will hopefully be the start of many new connections in the Upper Ferntree Gully area through this website. The aim is to have a website that is a great representation of the area, its people, its diversity and its community spirit.
Another key feature of the community site is the uniqueness of the email addresses available to the local community. They all end in upperferntreegully.vic.au. Simply add your own name, business name or type and you have a truly unique email address. Think of it..... yourclub@upperferntreegully.vic.au.
